What is this about?
Welcome to notjustshootyhoops.com! Basketball is certainly a passion and focal point of this blog, but it’s not just about hoops. How clever is that! Football, pro wrestling, pop culture, fatherly advice, countdown lists (who doesn’t love a countdown?), and a shitload of different shit will also be heavily featured.
Who is writing this?
I choose to remain anonymous. Well, actually it’s more “Faux Anonymity” to be precise. For those closest to me, they either know who is writing these posts or can surmise who it is if they’re not a complete moron. Now, my family has fought me tooth and nail about not wanting to reveal myself. My cousins, my daughter…my wife called my parents! Pleading. Telling them it was a sin for me not to receive personalized credit for my God given writing talent! But I answered her in the same way I answered everyone: I choose to remain anonymous. And here’s why:
In an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David donates money to a newly-opened non-profit and, in turn, received the “Larry David” wing at the headquarters in for his kind gesture. His buddy Ted Danson makes a similar donation but cleverly claims it was from “Anonymous”. The thing was, everyone who actually mattered in Larry and Ted’s circle of friends was fully aware that ‘Anonymous’ was, in fact, Mayday Malone himself…infuriating Larry. David claimed it was ‘Faux Anonymity’ and that he, too, would’ve preferred to remain Anonymous as long as he still got the credit from everyone in his inner circle. I’m with LD on this one…and I suppose Ted, too!
Why am I here?
After a long career in the corporate entertainment world in a creative capacity, I was needlessly cast aside a little while back. The industry didn’t want me. Hundreds of companies swiftly and unapologetically rejected my resume on-sight. Or, more appropriately, perhaps, never even giving me any ‘sight’ to begin with.
The feeling of worthlessness is devastating. But what’s even worse, is knowing that I’m not. The corporate world took away my creative voice…but through this blog, I’m hoping that people will realize that maybe I’ve still got something to say! (-Toby Flenderson…also me)
